About us
Driven by our philosophy, not our techniques.
The Unified Theory Wing Chun class has a strong commitment to traditional teaching and a modern approach to self defence, combat and philosophies, the three areas we focus on is self defence, modern combatives, and self improvement, these areas are important as every type of physical encounter can be broken down in to one of the three.
Our method of teaching and training can also be broken down in to two methods, traditional and contemporary or “The Unified Theory framework”, many people who have Wing Chun experience will already be familiar with the traditional teaching methods in Wing Chun, as its aim is to teach sensitivity, speed, centre line theory and body mechanics.
The Unified Theory framework however is a teaching framework developed to change the way you view the combative environment, it is not a fighting style, it is a way to process information and how you perceive and respond to all actions at that moment, it allows you to improve your cognitive thought process and make faster more decisive choices without ambiguous thoughts that create indecision, fear, and fear of failure which negatively influences the outcome, The Unified Theory framework embraces all aspects of all fighting arts, and breaks them down into fighting methods, it creates a foundation for you to learn from and allows you to tailor you fighting methodology specifically for you.

Self defence:
The aspect of self defence is the most common area that individuals often have their focus on in learning wing chun, from teaching individuals to womens groups and self defence seminars, Raymond Rodriguez has developed several courses for people who wish to improve their own awareness of their environment and survival awareness, through his weekly classes he helps many people discover their potential and how to control their fears as it is fear that often first grips people and convinces them to comply no matter what.
Combatives:
With all the various jobs that are available and are being done, combatives are an area that is required by personnel in in security, police, army, private sector and combat sports, the focus in combatives is to understand the particular sector and teach them a better approach to safely when performing their duties, and neutralizing threats in a manner that their jobs or sport permits.
The Unified Theory wing chun class has instructed individuals, to teams of doormen and individual doormen, MMA fighters, and boxers looking for a new methodology to what they do and how they achieve their goals, we set ourselves the task of tailoring useful Wing Chun applications to your needs in your field.

Self improvement:
One of the biggest benefits to learning Wing Chun is the self discovery that occurs on a week to week basis, starting on this path is easy, it emphasises honesty to the self, those that seek to know themselves are taught that a person’s comfort zone is restricting in getting to know who you are as a person, only by letting go of who you think you are can you discover who you really are and what you can truly become, sounds over the top? Maybe, but it is impossible to move forward until you free yourself from what you think and what you believe, not by blindly abandoning what you know, but by proving to yourself there are better ways to move forward.
The Unified Theory is an important concept in the process of self improvement and interpretation, it is the tool that encourages you to question what you think you know, and who you think you are, it guides you through self discipline, helps you to control your fear, strips the layers of who you pretended to be to reveal who you really are and who you really can be, it is applicable to combat and training and once understood filters down to every aspect of your life.
